Hardnox LLC was started in 1997 when Jim Echternacht, a general contractor in Santa Barbara, California, found himself and his crews struggling with heavy and oversized doors they were asked to install. He knew there had to be a better way - thus the idea for the DoorJak was born. Hospital facility managers found the product an absolute necessity and word soon spread. Hardnox LLC, knowing they had a great product, set up production in Jims home state of Nebraska and began taking orders. As demand for the DoorJak grew, Hardnox saw a need for a more portable unit to be used for residential and light commercial/industrial door installers. The DoorJak 50 was launched in 2003 and immediately made an impact on the industry. To support the new product, a dealer program was established. There are currently over 800 DoorJak dealers nationwide as well as a handful of Canadian dealers.
